YOUTHS who throw "mud bombs" at passing cars will face arrest, the police have warned.
PC Angela Rawlinson, beat bobby for Burneside, and PC Jan Beard, community officer for the Sandylands estate, Kendal, issued the warning following a spate of incidents over the past fortnight.
PC Rawlinson said gangs of youths aged between 11 and 17 had been seen in the two areas throwing mud bombs scooped up from the sodden ground following the recent heavy rainfall.
She said the culprits were risking the lives of drivers and pedestrians and that if caught they would be arrested under the Road Traffic Act for causing danger to road users'.
So far there had been no injuries, said PC Rawlinson, but the incidents have sparked several complaints from residents.
It is also feared that some of the bombs lobbed at cars contain rocks, which could cause serious injury and damage.
"These kids think it's a laugh but it is extremely dangerous and they will be arrested if caught," said PC Rawlinson.
"We want motorists to be aware of these gangs and we also want parents to be aware of what their children are doing when they are out at night."
