A SUCCESSFUL youth shelter built on the Hallgarth Estate in Kendal could provide the blueprint for other similar projects across South Lakeland.
South Lakeland's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership was told the project had been a great example of how people could work together in partnership.
South Lakeland District Council's Ian Elleray said the shelter had been set up to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
"It's been a success and one of the most enjoyable initiatives I have been involved with for quite a while," he said.
The project involved Young Cumbria and included consultation with young people last October that was very helpful in identifying exactly what they wanted.
An evaluation of the scheme after six months proved positive. The age of regular users ranged from 10 to 16 plus, which suggested that the aim of providing a safe meeting place for young people had been met, and it is estimated there had been a decrease in anti-social behaviour.
Mr Elleray said it was a model that others could take forward to use in the future.
