THOUSANDS of South Lakeland people will turn out this weekend to pay their respects to those who lost their lives during conflicts around the world.
Services are being held at churches and memorials across the area, including Sedbergh where more than 1,500 guests are expected to gather for a special remembrance event.
A private service will be held at Sedbergh School chapel at 9.30am, followed by a piper-led parade to the recently-renovated school cloisters where a band will play.
After the two-minute silence at 11am, an RAF helicopter will fly past the war memorial before returning to hover over it during a 13-gun salute from the Royal Artillery. Children will then plant 454 crosses to mark each old Sedberghian killed during both world wars.
Families of the winners of four Victoria Crosses will also be at the Victoria Cross Memorial to lay wreaths along with 30 other families and representatives of the armed services.
