KIRKBY Stephen Grammar School Sports College students Lucy Potter and Ben Lindridge have Christened their school's new sports dome in their most recent tennis tournament.
Lucy took the girls 16 and under singles title and Ben the 16 and under boys doubles title along with partner Edward Bishop from Barnard Castle. The tournament was the first one held inside the new airdome at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School Sports College and it proved to be a great success, attracting entries from all over Cumbria and Durham and Cleveland. In all, four events were hosted boys and girls 16 and under singles, boys 16 and under doubles and boys 14 and under singles and the homegrown players did well in all events. In addition to success for Lucy and Ben, there were near-misses for Richard Tunstall, who lost a very tight boys 16 and under singles final to Edward Bishop, and Richard and Joss Livesey, who went out of the boys 16 and under doubles event at the semi-final stage having held three match points in the second set. Other good home performances came from Dan and Andy Todd, Jamie McAllister, Scott Mitchell and John Peart.
