KENDAL Rugby Club has formed a committee dedicated to raising money for a player who was seriously injured during a game in September.
At a meeting this week, the club established a committee to oversee the setting up of a trust fund for second team hooker Wayne Broadley, who sustained serious spinal injuries during a game in Manchester early last month.
Mr Broadley was recently transferred to the spinal rehabilitation unit at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, which has experience of helping rugby players.
Director of Rugby at Kendal RUFC Chris Hayton said that the club was receiving advice from the welfare officer at the Rugby Football Union, the sport's governing body.
"We are looking at some short term and medium term fund-raising plans starting right away with a race night, and also at events involving other clubs. It's early days, though, and we are still looking for ideas," said Mr Hayton. "I went to see Wayne on Wednesday and he was very upbeat and will soon start to receive some intensive physiotherapy," he added.
