VICTIMS of the earthquakes in Pakistan are set to benefit from the green thinking of a Windermere man. Frank Sanderson is donating 30 large boxes of used soap to the International Aid Trust to send over to South East Asia.

Mr Sanderson has been collecting soap, towels and other materials from hotels for many years. As a former hotel owner, he noticed the large amounts of soap that go to waste even though it could still be useful.

"There have been several different charities that I have donated to over the last 15 years but I chose to give the soap to International Aid Trust because they can take things in bulk and they can also act pretty quickly to make sure those who need it will get it," he said.

The soap used to be taken to a factory in Manchester for recycling. However, the factory told Mr Sanderson that they could no longer recycle the deposits due to new regulations, leaving him with the difficult task of finding another place to recycle the product.

"I tried all kinds of agencies but no one seemed interested," he said.
