CYCLISTS are being hit with £30 fixed penalties as the police bid to put the brakes on inconsiderate and dangerous cycling.
PC Roy Davidson is leading the crackdown in the Castle Parks, Kendal Parks and Heron Hill area of Kendal as the dark nights draw in.
He has vowed to target cyclists who ride on the pavement, ride without lights during the night and people riding bikes unfit to be used on the road.
PC Davidson said he launched his campaign after noticing a rise in cycle offences on his patch as the dark nights draw in.
He warned cyclists to obey the rules of the road and warned that people charged with "dangerous cycling" could be up in court.
