SLYNE-WITH-HEST are the toast of the British Energy North Lancashire League as they continue to fly the flag in the LFA Amateur Shield.
The locals won 5-3 at Rochdale outfit Blessed Sacrament but only after a ding-dong battle needed extra-time to find a winner.
Steve Miller gave the locals a two-goal lead with two stunning strikes but the Rochdale outfit fought back to level the match with the last kick of the game.
That extra period saw Lee Fox extend the Slyne lead before Dean Threlfall bagged a bace including a penalty to make it 5-2.
Sacrament pulled a goal back at the death but that was little more than a consolation as the locals celebrated.
Marsh United were always going to be up against it when they faced top West Lancashire League side BAE Systems Barrow but they didn't down without a fight at Willow Lane.
In fact, Lee Sparks nearly gave Marsh the lead inside 20 seconds when his 25-yarder was just wide.
The locals really took the game to BAE but fell behind midway through the second half when keeper Luke Phillips saw his under pressure clearance thud into the six-foot six-inch Mark Knowles and the ball flew into the net.
Jimmy Love was denied by a great save after a moment of brilliance, while Sparks and Kev Coulton had efforts cleared off the line as Marsh cranked up the pressure.
But they were rocked by Trevor Howston's lucky goal to fall 2-0 behind.
Marsh refused to throw the towel in and Coulton grabbed the goal their play deserved but it was too little too late for a comeback.
Highgrove celebrated success in the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup as they hammered Central Pier 7-1 thanks in part to braces from Scott Doherty and Luke Ogley.
Bentham beat Poulton United 5-2, while Moorlands went through to round three on penalties against Gregson.
CCM Dynamos are the new leaders of the Premier Division as a brace from Simon Marshall and Gareth Turner's effort gave them a 3-0 win over Torrisholme, while Westgate Wanderers beat City Contract Services 3-1.
The games between Boys Club and Kirkby Lonsdale and Cartmel and District and Ingleton both finished in 1-1 draws.
In the Holdens Solicitors/Gibson Challenge Cup first round Storeys Reserves neat Community Sports 4-1, while Vine edged out Morecambe Royals Reserves 3-2.
Cartmel Reserves beat Arnside 5-2 in Divison One, while Swarthmoor Social Club beat Ingleton Reserves 5-0 thanks to goals from Graham Wilcock (two), Gavin Butler, Colin Woodburn and Ryan Lackey.
Burton Thistle and Galgate shared six goals in an exciting draw, while Caton United and Millhead topped that for a feast of football.
They drew 4-4 with eight different men making the scoresheet.
Carnforth Rangers needed a penalty shoot-out to move into the next round of the Scotts Sports/Whiteside Cup after drawing 2-2 with Trimpell after extra-time, while a Steve Rose own goal sealed a 3-2 win for Halton Rangers Reserves over Marsh United Reserves.
Brace boys Alan Lingwood, Rob Goldsborough and Dave Riley each hit the net twice for Morecambe Hoops as they hammered Allithwaite Rangers 8-2 in Division Two, where there was a 4-1 win for Bolton-le-Sands over Swarthmoor Reserves while Freehold and Westgate Rangers drew 1-1.
Millhead Reserves beat Highgrove Reserves 3-2 in Division Three's only game of the day, while Division Four's four games produced 23 goals.
That was largely down to leaders Bowerham, who battered Poulton United Reserves 9-0 with hat-tricks from Mark Hetherington and Steve Griffiths.
