Scottish singer Lena Martell will be the filling in a rock sandwich as Morecambe hsost three touring bands next week.

The Glasgow warbler who shot to fame at the age of 11 and has since recorded more than 30 albums and hosted her own BBC network TV show, will be in concert at the Platform next Friday, October 28.

She was British TV personality for four consecutive years and also played on Broadway and in London's West End.

But she has a very different role in Morecambe - her one night show comes in between performances of two of the country's best loved wrinkly' rock bands.

Next Thursday (October 27) the Platform will host twin-lead guitar band Wishbone Ash as part of their 35th anniversary tour. And on Saturday (October 29), rhythm n blues band Slack Alice will fill the same venue as they tour to promote their forthcoming album English Eddie and Other Stories'.

Formed in October 1969 by guitarist Andy Powell, Ash were gigging by 1970 and rose to fame for their unique blend of blues, jazz and English folk - not to mention the trademark way the band's guitars played melodic leads together.

They promise a gig of classic Ash songs blended with new material.

Formed in 1973 by gravel voiced singer Cliff Stocker and bass player Malc Crossley, Slack Alice split after just four years but reformed in the Nineties to play songs such such as Monday Morning Blues' and Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart' alonsgide a whole batch of new songs.
