Appleby FC had a rearranged Talbot Insurance Westmorland League fixture at home with Greystoke because original opponents Sedbergh were playing in the Craven Cup and completed a quick double over their opponents with a 2-0 victory.
When the sides met three weeks ago, Appleby pulled back a 3-1 deficit for a 4-3 win, but this was a more comfortable success.
There was a dream start as Appleby took a seventh-minute lead when Richard Faustino crossed from the right for John Coward to shoot and, when his shot was blocked, the rebound fell to Neil Dean who shimmied past two men before firing into the bottom corner.
Although Appleby were playing good, passing football the end product was missing inside the box, forcing them to be satisfied with their 1-0 lead at half time.
Fortunately, a second goal came to steady any nerves early in the second half.
Striker Paul Moffet, who has moved to Carlisle City in the Northern Alliance, but was still signed on with his former club and available to play, then made his mark. Coward linked with Dean who cut the ball back from the byeline for the unmarked Moffet to knock down and plant his shot into the net.
Greystoke were largely restricted to long-range efforts.
The victory lifted Appleby (13 points) into joint third place with Coniston behind Wetheriggs United (19 points) and Kendal Town Reserves (15 points).
Manager Jock' Nugent said: "We deserved all three points but I'm still finding it difficult to get a settled side together and we can't be considered title contenders, but there's a long way to go yet."
