I WAS disappointed to read in my national newspaper about Lancaster City Council's jobsworth' attitude towards people singing and enjoying themselves in The Pier public house in Morecambe. Just the sort of publicity this town does not need.

No doubt the operatives from the council I hesitate to call them workers as they appear to be short of something better to do find pubs and clubs soft targets from which to extract extra revenue. The litter louts, grafitti artists and handbag snatchers are much more difficult to catch.

Perhaps someone could be gainfully occupied in keeping the noticeboard (outside the Town Hall on the prom) up to date. It usually displays notices of meetings long passed.

No doubt the next place we can expect to hear of these enforcers will be at a home game at Christie Park to stop the fans from singing.

We should be promoting this town by telling the country about the superb view across the Bay and what cracking weather we enjoy. But, of course, we must remember the council cannot claim credit for either the weather or the view !

Oh, by the way, the council now has 10 months notice in which to issue guidelines to local residential homes advising that staff, clients and guests should restrain themselves from singing at any Christmas Party unless they take it in turns no more than two at a time.
