A SINGLE mum is living in a council house with a roof that could blow off at any time SIX WEEKS after she reported serious damage.

Leanne Waddell (pictured) cannot believe the lack of action from Lancaster City Council and now says her eight-year-old daughter Sophie is terrified.

The little girl will not go in her bedroom because she is scared the wind could rip the roof off the gable-end house on the Vale estate at any time.

Winds in early January damaged the roof and Ms Waddell says: "Sophie came rushing into my bedroom in the middle of the night and said she thought there was someone in the loft or on the roof.

"She wouldn't go back to bed so she stayed with me for the rest of the night.

"Then a neighbour came banging on the door in the morning telling me that the roof was hanging off I couldn't believe it.

"I contacted the council straight away and they said they would send someone out so I stayed off work.

"But no-one turned up so I lost money from work and the roof still hasn't been repaired. That is disgusting. I have a child in the house and this should be put right.

"Sophie is still scared to go in her bedroom and it's just not right.

"The council would not let me get away with not paying my rent for six weeks yet they seem quite happy to let me wait for this work to be done.

"Slates are loose and in places the roof is just the felt flapping about it isn't safe."

There is good news, however. The city council says the roof will be repaired within the next five day.

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council says: "The major storms during January caused an unprecedented amount of damage throughout the district and the Council received a huge volume of calls requesting repairs as a result.

"Ms Waddell was one such call and the Council have working continuously to respond to each request.

"Arrangements have been made to carry out repairs to her roof within the next five days."
