ARNSIDE'S Coastguard crew saved a walker from certain death after he became stuck up his neck in mud on Morecambe Bay's treacherous sands near Silverdale.

The 47-year-old man was pulled to safety after the Morecambe inshore lifeboat and hovercraft were scrambled to his aid at 11.15am on Sunday.

The man had been walking when he became stuck in quicksand, in the notoriously dangerous bay.

Colin Brown of Liverpool Coastguard praised Arnside Coastguard for their swift response and urged anglers venturing out into unknown areas to obtain local information, such as tide times.

"If it had not been for the swift response from the Arnside Coastguard Rescue team to this man, this incident could have had a different outcome," he said.
