CLARE Chappelhow completed a hat-trick of wins in British Dressage at Kingwater E.C., near Brampton, Carlisle.

All the competitors experienced wintry weather conditions as there were snow flurries followed by heavy showers and high winds throughout the day.

Clare started with a win in the Novice 24, riding the consistent Crackenthorpe Jagellon, owned by Mrs Anne Thoburn, of Thornthwaite, Keswick. This class was judged by Clare Dryden, who had travelled from near Billingham in Cleveland.

Clare and Crackenthorpe Jagellon collected a second place in the following class, which was won by a competitor from Lancashire and judged by a Mrs Lace from near Ormskirk in Lancashire.

Mrs Lace continued to judge the remaining classes and many competitors were a little despondent, feeling her marks were quite harsh.

Clare went on to take her second win of the day in the Elementary 41 and a third place in the E 44, riding Crackenthorpe Kinsman, a homebred gelding, who is a full brother to Clare's International eventer Crackenthorpe Lady J. Clare said: "I have high hopes of Kinsman following in Lady's hoof prints! He is showing great versatility; just yesterday he was placed fourth in show jumping in the Greenlands BSJA show at Southwaite. Presently, he is being prepared for eventing and this was his first week returning to competition since last summer. I am happy with such a positive start."

Clare convincingly won the final class of the day, riding her mum's stallion Crackenthorpe Formula One, who stands at the Crackenthorpe Stud near Appleby. This combination had over 3 per cent in hand, from their nearest rivals in the Medium 63. Combined with a previous medium win, earlier in the week at Northallerton Equestrian Centre, they have now gained another ticket for the British Dressage Northern Winter Championship to be held at Myerscough, Lancashire.

Clare has now qualified four horses, in a range of classes from Novice to Advanced, for this National Championship.
