TWO schoolgirls dived in at the deep end to help victims of the Asian tsunami.
Ten-year-olds Leanne Dunn and Samantha More got together for a sponsored swim at Heysham High School last month and raised more than £1,000 for the cause.
But instead of giving the cash directly to the Disasters Emergency Fund appeal the girls are backing local woman Ann Oldham's campaign to provide practical help.
With the help of the girls she has so far raised more than £1,500 to purchase Aquaboxes, which she is filling with goods such as toiletries, bowls, clothes, hammers and nails.
The £50 boxes are sent to the disaster zone, where the recipient of the box can then use it to purify water for drinking.
Pictured, from the left, with items for the appeal are 10-year-olds Leanne and Samantha with Ann Oldham, Jane Bailey from Westgate Tyres and David Wilde from the Church of Ascension.
