SO IMPRESSED were a Kendal couple with a special tyre protection product which claims to wipe out the possibility of ever sustaining a puncture - they have given up the day job to bring the product to motorists in Cumbria.
Edward and Nicola Meek, of Romney Road, Kendal, are now franchise holders for Ultra Seal a revolutionary product, which can render a tyre bullet-proof.
Used by NASA in the Lunar Moon Buggy's testing series on Earth, the gel-like product is inserted into tyres before there is a problem, leak or puncture.
"It doesn't take very long to do a set of tyres on a vehicle, which is great because the driver gets peace of mind for the rest of the tyre's natural life," explained Mr Meek.
"The gel corrects tyre pressure and will repair itself even if you get a puncture to a depth of 6mm, so the driver can be confident they won't be stranded somewhere with a flat or deflated tyre."
Ultra Seal started in America and, although it is available in other parts of the UK, the Meeks are the only distributors of the product in the area.
And even though Mr Meek has been in business for just two weeks, having given up his previous job as a warehouseman, he has already had a stream of customers.
Based from home, he travels out to carry out the work and can have a set of car tyres finished inside 20 minutes.
The cost for an average family car is approximately £32, depending on tyre size.
Once the product is pumped into the tyre, the gel coats the inside wall, forming a 2-3mm thick liquid inner tube.
If the tyre is punctured, the centrifugal forces of the rotating wheel forces the product to plug the hole.
"You have to see it to believe it," added Mr Meek.
"It's already used as a safety feature in race cars and is perfect for emergency services vehicles and for anyone who doesn't know how to change a tyre.
"We can put it in anything, from a car to a mountain bike, and we're looking forward to some busy months ahead."
