TWO tots are stamping out speeding by getting dressed up as little policemen and waving home-made 30mph signs at wagons and cars on a busy road.

Twins Alex and Sam Huntington, pictured, put on their toy bobby uniforms and patrol the pavement outside their house on Heysham Road in an effort to get cars to stick to the speed limit.

And their actions have earned praise from Morecambe's top cop as she sticks to the more usual methods of putting a brake on speeders.

Alex and Sam's road safety message appears to be getting through and proud mum Katrina says: "They go out there quite a lot and their message seems to be getting across.

"A lot of cars beep their horns and flash their lights at them and a lot of cars do slow down when they see them and their signs.

"They made the posters on their own and I am really proud of them. Speeding is a problem on any road and if they can get drivers to slow down I am happy.

"I do not know why they started doing it but it appears to be working and if they get the attention of speeding drivers and get them to do something about it I have got to be happy."

Inspector Jill Townley of Morecambe police is also happy with Sam and Alex and told the Citizen: "Maybe they will join the police in a few years.

"Heysham Road is an area where we focus on speeding and have cameras and mobile enforcement units out there quite often. So we are fully aware of potential problems there.

"While this is an unusual way to get the message across, as long as Sam and Alex are not in any danger, I am very pleased.

"Maybe some speeding drivers will take notice of two little lads and so I say good on them."
