n Sir, I understand that those very thoughtful planners at Cumbria County Council are considering plans to ban all forms of traffic on Stricklandgate,in the centre of Kendal, between the library and Kendal Town Hall.
Apparently this ban also includes disabled Blue Badge holders, between 11am and 4pm. With this ban in mind, put yourself in the place of every elderly or disabled person affected by this ban.
1.You have to rely on a care worker to come and get you up out of bed, get you dressed and make your breakfast, before you can go anywhere.
2.Then you have to wait for suitable accessible transport to get you into Kendal, in order to go your nearest bank, do your shopping, use the library or visit Kendal Town Hall.
If this ban on Blue Badge holders is allowed to go ahead, all this must happen before 11am or after 4pm!
Therefore, this will effectively ban elderly and disabled people from using all these services between 11am and 4pm as they will no longer accessible.
Under the DDA ACT 1995, every single person effected by this ban will have the basic legal right to sue each and every service provider who denies them access to their services, through the county court, fined heavily, which will seriously effect their business.
