I REGRET I must keep returning to the same old subject on the Citizen letters page - but the litter and vandalism problems seem to be never ending.
Over the weekend and on Monday morning I was stopped by several residents while walking into town from Scotforth. All had the same complaint about rubbish on our parkland and streets - and about the targetting of the Scotforth Road bus shelter by vandals again.
This is the fourth time in just about as many months that the glass has been smashed by vandals.
Empty bottles, cans and food containers are just chucked in the bushes and along the pavements, and while Belle Vue Gardens are being revamped the litter is thrown in there.
In places you cannot see the sprng shoots which are beginning to peep through because of the amount of rubbish.
I know that the workers from City Contract Services do their best to keep the roads and streets clean but a certain minority make it impossible because, quite simply, they don't give a toss for the environment of other people.
Things have improved since wheelie bins were introduced in Scotforth but we have a long way to go to educate the idiots who choose to ignore the law and throw their litter around without a thought.
Some towns are beginning to impose fines on the guilty few and I wonder if that is what is needed here.
People may think I do nothing but drone on and on about this problems but I also complain to the appropriate departments and ask them to follow up my concerns on behalf of residents. However, it is like being stuck in a never-ending circle.
Cllr Sheila Denwood, Scotforth.
