THE number of ex-convicts being housed in Morecambe needs to be curbed to build a brighter resort.
So says Cllr Peter Robinson, who was expected to put the issue to a full meeting of Lancaster City Council's today (Wednesday).
He told the Citizen that the probation service has always denied that a high number of people leaving jail are housed in Morecambe's West End.
But Cllr Robinson claims a map given to him by Home Office minister Hazel Blears shows a much higher intensity in Morecambe than Lancaster.
"It is no wonder that there is such a high crime rate in Morecambe. There needs to be a change in strategy to stop them using cheap housing in the West End," says Cllr Robinson, who was set to ask the council what it plans to do about the situation.
