VALE of Lune dug deep and impressed again but there was yet more heartache and heartbreak on Merseyside for the locals.

Despite a battling display Vale failed to get two points to haul themselves clear of the Powergen North One drop zone.

A fast moving game saw the lead change several times before West Park edged away to win it handsomely in the closing minutes.

West Park opened the scoring after seven minutes with a try from Matt Henwood but the sure boot of Andy Miller slotted Vale ahead with two penalties.

But West Park went back in front after 21 minutes when prop forward Ian Critchley barged over from close range.

Gareth Darwen then replied to put Vale in front almost straight away, and when Stephen Briers dived in it looked as though the locals were set for a great day.

But the lead couldn't last after the break and West Park forced their way over in the corner.

Tyrone Sorour led a Vale fightback and raced in from 22-yards before Miller slotted over the extras but an amazing game saw West Park reclaim the lead again Andy Soutar glided in to score.

Vale were so close to getting back into the game when Andrew Richardson was held up over the line, while Miller went close with a penalty.

But it was wrapped up for West Park when Soutar crossed and added the extras and a penalty to leave Lune beaten.

On Sunday Vale take a break from the rigours of North One when they hit the road to Waterloo in the Lancashire Cup.
