FA TROPHY legend Phil Wilson saw his dreams of managerial success in the competition he dominated as a player disappear for another year but took plenty from the game.
Wilson, once a winner, three times a finalist and seven times in the semi-final, has never had a great time since switching to the dugout.
But his City side gave a fine account of themselves before losing out to neighbours Morecambe.
Says a philosophical Wilson: "We started really well and after 20 min-utes we could have been maybe two or three up because we were playing well.
"Jamie Speare made some good saves but I thought Peter Thomson had four gilt-edged chances and Adam Sollitt made a couple of good saves.
"And I thought Thommo's last chance was in; I really thought he had scored. The back of the net was bulging but it was the side netting.
"To be fair in the second half their full time fitness showed a bit and it was hard for us but we were always a chance away from getting an equaliser and I cant fault the lads' efforts because Morecambe are a good foot-balling side.
"We did all right and I told the lads they had to get their heads up because they did not let themselves down.
"We had a go with four forwards on at the end and with a bit of luck we may have got a goal but Morecambe deserved it on the second half performance."
