The National Trust has today closed Tarn Hows, near Hawkshead, to visitors so that forestry teams, using heavy machinery, can clear out trees that have been felled in the recent storms.
The path around Tarn Hows has been blocked in a number of places by large trees and visitors have been forced to climb over or walk round them.
It is hoped the work will be completed in a few days and the Tarn footpath can re-open on Saturday (February 12).
Car parks are currently blocked off and information signs erected.
A suggested walk nearby, which can accommodate push chairs and is pleasant and lakeshore, would be a walk from Coniston boating centre, through Coniston Hall, or perhaps Harrowslack woods, on the other side of the Ferry opposite Bowness past the ferry landings.
