TWO weeks ago I was con-sidering writing on the subject of rubbish. Now Citizen Smith has read my mind and written on the subject and I agree with most of his comments but he missed an opportunity to really hit the spot.
Last year the council delivered nice big wheelie bins and boxes for re-cycling. Impressive they were and it seemed like a great idea.
But not so impressive are the re-cycling boxes with lids that didn't fit and instructions about what you can and cannot put in them.
If and when, the refuse operatives come, we find the recycling boxes have lost their lids in the wind and there is rubbish all over the street. We may be lucky enough to have wheelie bins but we certainly don't see road sweepers.
What about the boxes then You can't put windowed' envelopes in them yet the council sends out its council tax demand in windowed envelopes. You can't use them for plastic bottles yet there is a facility to recycle them at Salt Ayre. You can put animal bedding in the green wheelie bin but not if that bedding includesnewspaper. Yyet you can put newspaper into the boxes Confued?
I have also been supplied with a compost bin and since then have continued to receive junk mail from the county council about how to use it even though I have asked them to stop sending it.
Junk mail isn't just from the county though, we also get personally delivered by Royal Mail'' junk. Would someone please publish the address of the postmaster general so I can personally put it back in the post with his address on. Then there's the junk mail from the Citizen yes, you're guilty as well so please tell the manufacturers, DIY companies, supermarkets insurance companies and any fast food establishments that won't deliver to Heysham anyway.
What about the roads, the pavements and the hedgerows? I have to say that I am disgusted with how much rubbish there is lying around and seriously wonder why any of us have to pay council tax at all. I'd be happy to pay for the fire brigade, ambulance service and for libraries but there is only one word for the rest of the service rubbish!
A Houghton, Heysham.
