A SHORT cut through the Ryelands estate is about to be bathed in light years after United Utilities turned off the power.
Resident William Mundell was fuming after he contacted Lancaster City Council about the light and was told he would have to pay to have it reinstated.
Mr Mundell, of Marshaw Road, says: "The light is on an alley by the side of my house and a lot of people use the path. But it is not safe at night because it is so dark.
"When the light was cut off there was damage to the power box as well and that hasn't been put right.
"There is no way that I am going to pay for it it's up to someone else because the light has been there for so long."
A spokesman for Lancaster City Council confirms that United Utilities disconnected the power to the light some time ago.
"We have never received any complaints about the light but now Mr Mundell has brought it to our attention, we have asked United Utilities to reconnect it.
"He will not have to pay for this to be undertaken."
