COMPUTER games retailer Micro Markets has moved from Stramongate in Kendal to new premises in Morecambe.
The company, which had been in Kendal for around six years, closed its doors on January 12 and staff are now getting the new shop at 25-27 Queen Street, Morecambe, up and running.
The new shop is around four times as large as the previous one and includes offices from where the company runs an internet sales operation. Owner of Micro Markets Glenn Charleshouse said the aim of the move was to centralise the various branches of the business, as Micro Market already owned the building at 27 Queen Street and the purchase of the premises next door allowed it to expand the business under one roof.
He said that the Kendal business had suffered from the arrival of computer game chain, Game, in 2003, and he also blamed traffic problems in the town for discouraging shoppers. The company employs around 15 members of staff and also has outlets at Lancaster and Morecambe markets.
