IT'S a rotten job but someone has to do it The cast and crew of Lancaster Footlights Club upcoming production The Field' have taken a trip to Dublin to research their roles more thoroughly.

The rural drama by John B.Keane is set in Ireland and the good news for the researchers is that the action takes place largely in pubs.

Director Ginny Scott thought it best for her players and backstage staff to see the real thing for themselves and taste it, no doubt.

The players spent a weekend in Dublin to soak up the Irish ambience, to work on their authentic accents and get used to the acquired taste' of drinking Guinness.

"Someone had to do it for the sake of the play," says Ginny.

The play follows the story of one man's fight to save his land, combining poignant drama with a sense of humour. It was made into a cult film in the 1970s, starring Richard Harris.

The Field will be performed at the Lancaster Grand Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, Februaary 15 to 19, nightly at 7.30pm. Tickets details are from the box office on 01524-64695.
