A SHOCKED Morecambe car dealer couldn't sleep for two nights after the BMW he was driving was shunted through a shop window by his father's car.

Gareth Horn was taking the car for a test run on Monday evening with his father Trevor Horn following behind.

But after a freak accident, Gareth careered through the window of the Spar shop on Lancaster Road, narrowly missing shoppers inside.

Says Gareth: "I was driving along and had to brake. My dad was in the car behind and he went to brake but his foot slipped off the pedal and he shot into the back of me.

"That sent me through the shop window and for a while it was terrifying. You just freeze when that happens it's the natural reaction. There was nothing I could do and I am just happy at no-one was hurt "It's so lucky that no one was seriously hurt. A lot of people often gather outside the Spar but there was no one there.

"But I was thinking all sorts and didn't sleep too well on Monday and Tuesday with all that was going through my mind.

"I mean the damage to the car and to the shop window is repairable but if someone had been seriously hurt it would have been terrible."

The accident happened at 5.40pm on Monday on the busy road.

Fifty-year-old shop assistant, Pauline Malkin, suffered cuts from flying glass to her foot after being trapped behind the counter and a 29-year-old suffered a leg injury. Two children were treated for shock.

All four people were released from the Royal Lancaster Infirmary after treatment.
