CELEBRATE the great potato during a day dedicated to all things spud.
Mashed, boiled, baked, chipped or roasted whichever way you like it will be there at a Potato Day taking place at the Friends Meeting House in Meeting House Lane next month.
It is the brainchild of Lancaster Seedsavers, who aim to get people growing more of their own veg.
Lucia Marquart, of Seedsavers, says: "Anyone can grow potatoes. Even if you only have a small back yard, you can grow them in a barrel."
"Potato Day will be on Saturday, February 12, and will see varieties as different as the red Desiree, the white Maris Peer and the Edzell Blue al on sale there will even be a British Queen' variety.
Says Lucia: "There will also be classic French salad potatoes such as Belle de Fontenay and Roseval, which are grown in Scotland for better disease resistance, and organic seed potatoes all the colours of the rainbow.
"And with charming names like Catriona (with pretty blue eyes) to Nicola and Charlotte, who could resist giving potato growing a go!"
There will also be a potato doctor on hand at the event to help solve potato problems, activities for children, talks, potato dishes to try and a raffle.
