A LANCASTER Royal Gram-mar School pupil is to have trials with the England U16 rugby squad.
Daniel Birchall, from Hest Bank, played in front of England selectors at the weekend following his earlier selection for both the Lancashire and North of England squads.
The divisional festival at Castlecroft Stadium, Wolverhampton, aimed to pick out 75 boys to attend an England Training Camp at Hartpury College for team building and practice matches.
Daniel says: "If I do make it into the squad the schedule will be fairly demanding but other people do it and cope so I don't see any problems as far as my studies go.
"I would love to play professional rugby for England and pursue a career in the sport.
" If I don't make it in rugby I'd probably like to work in another sports related field, but for now I'll see how my exams go."
