TREACHEROUS underfoot conditions made descending difficult for youngsters competing in the third Kendal Winter League race centred on Fairmile in the Howgills, near Sedbergh.
The frozen ground was extremely slippy and some of the youngsters found it difficult to keep their feet although spectators got a superb view of the racing action in Sunday's glorious sunshine.
All the junior records remained intact but in the senior men's race Helm Hill's Billy Procter sliced 30 seconds off the previous best mark clocking 24-46.
He beat his Helm Hill team mate Alistair Dunn by 24 seconds and was first veteran. Sedbergh schoolboys Robert and Simon Barnby finished in sixth and seventh place.
Ambleside's Jane Leather won the ladies' race with Helm Hill's Nicky Lavery 15 seconds behind.
