ANOTHER warning about cash card fraud has been issued by police in South Lakeland following a complaint from a shopper at a Kendal superstore.

Crime prevention officer Terry Belshaw warned people to be extra vigilant when using chip and pin devices at stores after a shopper at Morrisons complained a group of Eastern European customers had attempted to watch her entering her PIN number.

The gang, which consisted of two women and a men, moved behind the woman as she attempted to pay for her shopping at 4.30pm on Thursday, January 20.

"If it had worked they would have had a video or photograph of the shopper entering her PIN, which would just require them to steal the card from her outside," said Mr Belshaw.

"In this case the shopper should be commended for taking our repeated advice by not entering her PIN number because she was suspicious of those around her."

He added that Kendal police would be in contact with their colleagues at Penrith who arrested five Romanians on Saturday on numerous charges of attempted fraud with ATM machines and going equipped to commit fraud.
