Sir, I have just had read to me (as I am blind) a notice in your January 7 edition, announcing that Cumbria County Council is proposing to decommission two Pelican pedestrian crossings in Stricklandgate, Kendal.
It states: The two Pelican crossings are being decommissioned as part of a six month trial scheme to make Stricklandgate more pedestrian friendly.' Could someone from CCC explain to me how the loss of two Pelican crossings is being more friendly to pedestrians?
I shall be registering an official objection. The scheme may result in less traffic, be only a single lane and have a 20mph speed limit, which may make it easier for pedestrians to cross as long as they can see.
Those Pelican crossings are absolutely imperative for visually impaired people.
Michael Hartley, Kendal
