As a glance at the TV schedules will tell you, makeovers are big news. And in keeping with the spirit of the times, The Sixth Keswick Film Festival has been given a great new look.

In 2005, the focus is firmly on the contemporary, with 24 of the best new international films to choose from. Movies from France, Korea, China and Spain rub shoulders with titles from Britain and America.

To match its youthful programme, Festival Director, Alex Greenwood, has been working with students at Cumbria Institute of the Arts to give the event's publicity a restyle.

Under the guidance of Ray Turner, Head of Design, 10 of the Institute's students created a range of new looks for the festival. The chosen brochure design, by Nicholas Welbourn, hit the leaflet racks in early January and Jane South's festival logo, specially animated by Institute students, will be featured on-screen before each festival film.

"Cumbria Institute of the Arts' response to our approach has been absolutely fantastic," says Alex. "The whole project began with an email we sent to Keswick Film Club members asking for help with the organisation of the festival. From that, we made contact with the Institute and the result is our great new image! Though in the end we chose Nicholas's design, the ideas and commitment of all the students was really incredible and the work they've produced is inspiring."

The design ideas of all of the Cumbria Institute of the Arts students will be on display throughout the festival, at Theatre by the Lake.
