THE lights may eventually be turned on in Ryelands Park perhaps even by the end of this month.
In October the Citizen reported how Lancaster City Council had installed smart new lamp posts around the park's cycle track.
But local people were still in the dark because power firm United Utilities had not connected them to the electricity supply.
Our story seemed to spur United Utilities into life and many of the lights were connected almost immediately.
But the final section of lighting is still not illuminated and in a fortnight it will be the first anniversary of the job being ordered by the city council.
United Utilities has now admit-ted that the delay is its fault and says the work will be completed soon.
"We have been inundated with work after the recent floods and storms," a spokesman for the power company told the Citizen on Tuesday.
"But it does appear that our original plans for the job could not be carried out and we have had to go back to the drawing board to find a way of completing it.
"Hopefully the work will be done within the next week to 10 days."
