HEYSHAM Power Stations' fund-raising efforts have been recognised by RADAR the company's chosen charity for 2004.
The sites at Heysham raised £15,000 for the charity the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation through a series of events last year, with British Energy matching each pound raised.
Power station workers also set up a community mentoring scheme to help people with disabilities back to work.
And as a result they have scooped the charity's own Pioneering in Partnership Award'.
Mike Grimmitt, a member of Heysham's fund-raising committee that helped run events including a sponsored swim, coffee morning, charity football match, car boot sale and a calendar featuring male staff, collected the award at Radar's gala human rights ceremony in London.
John Calnan, Heysham's station director, says: "The staff have a long association with supporting charitable groups locally but the energy they have shown in raising in effect £30,000 in a little over 10 months has been amazing."
