FOOTBALL: Appleby played well and probably deserved a point but came away from Kendal Town Reserves with a 2-1 defeat when Talbot Insurance Westmorland League action resumed on Saturday.
Midway through the first half, John Coward's corner was headed off the line and Neil Dean cleverly lobbed a shot over the defence to put Appleby ahead.
At the start of the second half, Ben Greenhow saw an effort scooped over the bar before Town equalised and took a 2-1 lead with a powerful header from a corner.
Nicky Dent in the Town goal kept his side ahead when he turned John Coward's goal-bound shot away.
Appleby might have sneaked a draw but Paul Moffet was just wide off the target at the end.
Sedbergh Wanderers were in indifferent form with a 4-1 defeat at Keswick, while leaders Kendal County saw a 2-1 lead turn into a 3-2 deficit before winning 4-3.
