Westmorland Gazette readers gave our Save The Walks campaign their firm backing this week when more than 530 people used a special phone poll to vote on the future of the Lake District National Park Authority's threatened events programme.
A total of 508 readers voted to keep the 900-strong programme and 23 voted to ditch it.
Mr Tiplady was unavailable for comment on the Gazette's campaign but LDNPA spokesman Mick Casey questioned the validity of the phone poll.
"With less than one per cent of Gazette readers taking part in the phone poll it is difficult to know how statistically reliable the results are."
