A BLIND collie, who has hiked 4,200 miles over the fells gave his owners the run around when he disappeared as gale-force storms battered Cumbria.
Tip, a former rescue dog was taken in 18-months ago by Ulverston couple, Norma and Roger Marsh of Oubas Hill, after he was found in a terrible condition.
Since then the hardy hound has defied his disability to bag 214 Lakes walks.
But on Tuesday night while on an outing to Rowan Head, near Barrow, Tip bounded off into the distance, forcing Mr and Mrs Marsh to search for him for over 19-hours.
Fortunately, the dog was found by a runner, damp and hungry and sheltering between some sand dunes. He was over a mile from where he originally disappeared.
A delighted Mrs Marsh said she planned to keep the capricious collie on an extended lead in future.
"We are very pleased and extremely grateful to the man who found him. He is a tough dog and a survivor but I don't think we can survive anymore episodes like this," she said.
