PEOPLE are being warned to take extra care out on the roads as heavy rain and strong winds batter the county today (Friday).
The A66 has been closed to high-sided vehicles and caravans at Stainmoor between Brough and Bowes. Cumbria Police have reminded drivers of these vehicles that the restrictions have been put in place for good reason. Police said a lane of the westbound carriageway had to be closed after a lorry driver ignored them and his vehicle was blown over. The Environment Agency have also warned of possible flooding across the county. A flood warning has been issued for low-lying areas near the River Eden at Appleby-in-Westmorland and a flood watch was issued for the South Lakeland and Furness areas.
