Following the announcement of the national Disasters Emergency Fund earthquake appeal, the Oxfam shops in Ambleside, Kendal, Ulverston and Windermere, received £25,000 in cash donations from the public in just two days, and many gifts to sell.
Nationally, Oxfam estimates it needs 10,000 shop volunteers in the New Year to cope with the enormous number of donations.
