Sir, We would like to take the opportunity of thanking all those supporters of the Cumbria Outward Bound Association who contributed to, and attended, the fund-raising lecture at The Percival Theatre, St Martin's College, Ambleside. We are pleased to report that we raised nearly £500.

Geoff Somers MBE, an ex-Outward Bound instructor and now one of the world's most accomplished Polar travellers, gave an informaive and interesting slide lecture entitled Journey to Remember the 4,000-mile traverse of Antarctica by Dog Sled.

The association in Cumbria aims to help fund and support young people from the county who might not otherwise be able to experience an Outward Bound adventure. Young people who take part in courses come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures to join together to develop their personal, team and life-building skills using the outdoors at one of the UK centres.

If you have had your life shaped by Outward Bound in the past perhaps as a member of staff or as a course participant then we would like to hear from you. Also, if you are involved with working with young people or know what the benefits of being able to have the opportunity of attending an Outward Bound course could make to young people and you would like to get involved, please contact us through Jane Simmons at The Outward Bound Trust on 01931-740019.

Lynn Healey, chairman, Cumbria Outward Bound Association Committee
