AN INTRUDER who terro-rised a young nurse in a nocturnal sex attack deserved every day of his 10-year jail term, top judges have ruled.

David Douglas Watters, of Thirlmere Road, Ridge, Lanc-aster, stole into the nurse's room while her flatmate slept next door.

He was jailed for 10 years at Preston Crown Court in June after pleading guilty to attempted rape, indecent assault and robbery.

The 21-year-old's application to appeal against sentence was dismissed at London's Appeal Court on Monday by Judge Fabyan Evans. He said that 10 years was fully justified'.

The judge sitting with Lord Justice Clarke and Mr Justice Gibbs said that the 22-year-old nurse's ordeal began on November 27 last year after she had gone to bed and her flatmate slept nearby.

As she was drifting off' she noticed Watters' face protruding from behind the curtains of her window, the court heard. He had come into the flat through the patio doors.

"From that moment on she was overcome with an over-whelming sense of fear and panic," the judge added.

Watters sat on the nurse's bed and demanded cash. He twice forced her to perform a sex act on him before attempting to rape her.

She was also stripped of her bank and credit cards, but gave Watters false PIN numbers so that he was unable to withdraw money.

He had threatened to return and kill her if the PIN numbers proved false, the court heard.
