THE October 21 edition of the Citizen highlighted an incident where a firework was pushed through a letter box, setting fire to items of mail and causing smoke damage.
The same story detailed a pledge by a PC Craig Mossop, who is beat manager for Skerton East to clamp down on young vandals'. I believe that a similar pledge was made by Lancaster City Council.
But every night for the last three weeks there have gratuitous incidences of powerful fireworks being detonated in the centre of Morecambe. Since they are obviously not part of any sanctioned display and bonfire night is not upon us yet, one can only presume that they are nuisance occurrences.
Furthermore, I would safely wager that people setting off the fireworks are the same type of young vandals' as those described above.
My suggestion would be that the city council and police publish details of how many arrests and convictions have been made for fireworks related offences in the last three weeks.
Then we will all see how real this clampdown' has been.
Roger Marsh, Morecambe.
