FOOTBALL: Appleby went out of the Westmorland County FA Senior Cup, beaten 3-1 by Kendal Town Reserves in the competition's second round on Saturday.
"I'm very disappointed," said Appleby boss Jock Nugent. "We can't complain, they were the better side and deserved to win.
"We're going through the motions at present and I'm struggling to know how to motivate the lads."
Appleby had an edge from corners and crosses but Craig Nelson and David Nugent could not find the target with headers in a goalless first half.
Instead Kendal's Shaun Pooley put the visitors ahead when he cut in for a near-post run and fired home.
Appleby managed to level the scores after Nelson's goal-bound header was handled on the line and John Coward tucked away the penalty. But even against Kendal's 10 men, Appleby still looked second best and could not get hold of the ball.
After a goalmouth melee Gary Major shot in off a post to restore Kendal's lead and then Pooley made a fine solo run and struck for his second goal to seal the tie.
