SCARECROWS and anti-GM campaigners will be at the top of Finkle Street, Kendal, Saturday, inviting people to call on Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins to back new laws to keep food and fields GM Free.
Real Food campaigner for South Lakeland Friends of the Earth Marianne Bennett said a pledge last year by the Lake District National Park Authority and Cumbria County Council to keep Cumbria GM Free could be made meaningless if the Government designed "co-existence" measures to allow for widespread GM contamination of crops and food.
"We hope that Tim Collins, who has been very supportive of the GM Free Cumbria initiative, will do everything he can to ensure that the Government does not threaten our right to choose GM Free food and keep our fields, hedgerows and remaining wildlife corridors free from GM contamination."
