WHITE slow' signs are to be painted on Central Drive, Ulverston, after concerns from residents about foot-to-the-floor motorists.
Cumbria County Council has agreed to do the work after a four-day traffic survey found several motorists flouting the 30mph speed limit and one travelling at over 50mph.
Ward councillor Norman Bishop-Rowe said CCC was also thinking about putting railings at the end of the road near the children's play area after he had raised residents' worries with the authority.
"There's a gentle slope down from there and some are using it as a skateboard ramp or coming down on their bikes and shooting straight into the road."
A two-metre stretch of low railings would solve the problem, said Coun Bishop-Rowe and, in terms of curbing childrens' freedoms to play in the streets, it was the lesser of two evils. "Which would cause most upset? A kiddie being killed or a safety rail?" he said.
