A FAMILY of four had a lucky escape after a their chip pan caught fire on Monday.
Lancaster fire fighters were called to their home in Canterbury Avenue just after 6.30pm after the family of two adults and two children had tried to fight the fire themselves.
The blaze caused serious damage to the kitchen and its contents while smoke also damaged much of the house.
Both adults suffered the effects of smoke inhalation and had to be treated at the scene by paramedics.
