DARTS will be flying on Saturday in memory of former darts enthusiast and Ulverston councillor Bob Bolton.
Members of the Ulverston Independent Darts League are staging what they hope will become an annual darts competition in memory of Mr Bolton.
The 50-year-old Ulverston town and district Labour councillor, who died in February, was a fixture on the Furness darts scene. While not a big darts player himself, as secretary of the league he spent many hours organising matches and other essentials like nibbles and minibuses.
"Bob has left a massive hole," said friend and league treasurer Ian Mouland. "He did everything for the league and ran the whole thing. In memory of him, we have had a big trophy made and we wanted to do this annual competition to remember him by and keep it going in his honour. Without him, there would not have been a darts league."
Saturday's inaugural tournament (on October 23) is in The Sun on Market Street, Ulverston. Those wishing to play need to sign-in at noon before the games begin at 12.30pm. Thanks to donations, there is a prize fund of £650.
All proceeds from the event will go to St Mary's Hospice, where Mr Bolton was cared for after suddenly being taken ill in September 2003 with a cancerous brain tumour.
