A GROUP of mums are trying to raise £70,000 in order to improve a children's play area.
They have got together with local councillors Anne Chapman and Jon Barry to form the Friends of Coronation Field and Freeman's Wood.
Their aim is to upgrade the playground in the Marsh area of Lancaster.
The mums want to see the area divided into two sections one for younger children with a separate area for older kids.
But in order to realise their dream, the group needs to raise nearly £70,000. They have already begun applying to a large number of charities and funding organisations and plan to host their own fund-raising events.
Cllr Barry says: "Many people on the Marsh have been impressed with the new play area at Fairfield and they want something similar for Coronation Field.
"As well as a new play area, we are also looking at plans to do something for teenagers such as a skateboarding area."
The group is to hold a consultation event at Coronation Field on Sunday, November 7, from 2pm to 4pm so that people can comment on the new plan.
